Florida QB Tyler Murphy will be a game-time decision against South Carolina

Florida quarterback Tyler Murphy has a sore shoulder and will be a game-time decision to play against South Carolina on Saturday, Gators offensive coordinator Brett Pease said on Tuesday.

Murphy first sprained his right shoulder a month ago against LSU. He was sacked five times in Florida’s 34-17 loss to Vanderbilt this past Saturday and apparently re-aggravated the injury in the process.

The junior has sat out the last two practices while trying to get healthy.

“He’s in a situation where he’s spending time in the training room getting healthy again,” Pease said. “I think it’s day to day based on what the trainers have to say.”

Murphy has 1,216 passing yards with six touchdowns and five interceptions on the year. If he can’t go, redshirt freshman Skyler Mornhinweg, the son of New York Jets offensive coordinator Marty Mornhinweg, would make his first career start. He has yet to see the field this season.

Either way, Florida is in big trouble and could be staring at its first losing season since 1979.
