Washington State has confirmed the NCAA has approved a waiver for wide receiver Vince Mayle that will allow him to play one more year for the Cougars.
The senior wide receiver played in all 10 games this season and has caught 32 passes for 423 yards (third most on the team) and five touchdowns (second most on the team) this season. There was optimism in the Washington State program that a waiver application would be approved by the NCAA, but the NCAA is not always exactly known to make the right decisions when presented with the opportunity. Fortunately for Mayle, the NCAA agreed another year was appropriate.
Mayle needed to apply for a waiver to play one more year in Pullman because he had played competitively at Shasta Community College (basketball) and Sierra College (football) prior to arriving at Washington State. Because he started playing basketball in 2009, Mayle’s eligibility clock got started early according to NCAA rules.
Mayle took to Twitter to break the news himself Friday and the school released a statement later in the day to confirm the news from the NCAA.MY WAIVER WAS PASSED I WILL BE PLAYING NEXT YEAR!!!
