Report: no decision likely on Winston case before Thanksgiving

It now appears that a decision on whether or not Jameis Winston will face charges related to an alleged sexual assault won’t come until after Florida State completes its regular season.

Speaking to the Associated Press Saturday, state’s attorney Willie Meggs, whose office is conducting the investigation into an alleged off-campus assault last December, said it’s unlikely he will decide to pursue charges against Winston prior to Thanksgiving this Thursday.

I very seriously doubt that we will be finished by Thanksgiving,” Meggs said. “We still haven’t gotten everything we need to get.”

Whether a decision is made the day after the holiday remains to be seen, although it’s likely no announcement from Meggs’ office will come until next week. The Seminoles close out the regular season this coming Saturday on the road against Florida; they will face an undetermined opponent a week later in the ACC championship game.
