Report: Tide fires assistant S&C coach involved in Clinton-Dix situation

A member of Nick Saban‘s extended Alabama coaching staff has reportedly lost his job as a result of his alleged involvement in NCAA improprieties.

The Tuscaloosa News reported shortly before UA’s kickoff against Chattanooga that assistant strength & conditioning coach Corey Harris has been fired. The school has not publicly addressed Harris’ status with the program.

In early October, Harris was placed on administrative leave for allegedly providing impermissible benefits to Ha Ha Clinton-Dix. Harris, the school’s compliance department discovered, had given the player a short-term loan of what was described as less than $500; the player turned over bank statements showing the withdrawal of money to repay the coach.

NCAA rules prohibit any coach from providing money to a student-athlete, up to and including the loaning of money.

During the compliance department’s investigation into the matter, it was further discovered that Harris had a connection to a representative -- i.e. runner -- of a sports agent. UA compliance determined that Clinton-Dix had no relationship with either the agent or his representative.

That said, Clinton-Dix still served a two-game suspension -- it was originally indefinite -- stemming from the original loan. The defensive back was reinstated in mid-October.
