Injury costs Rutgers its most potent receiver

Rutgers will be without one of the top weapons in its passing attack, head coach Kyle Flood said Monday.

Leonte Carroo has already been ruled out of a game Saturday against winless UConn that could push the Scarlet Knights to bowl eligibility. Carroo suffered an upper-body injury in last Thursday night’s loss to UCF.

Through 10 games, Carroo leads the Knights in receiving yards (478) and receiving touchdowns (nine). His 28 receptions are third on the team.

Because of Carroo’s injury, Ruhann Peele will turn into a two-way player, at least temporarily.

Peele was the Knights’ third-leading receiver when injuries in the secondary prompted a move to cornerback late last month. Flood said Peele will play both ways extensively in the Huskies game.
