Tulane accepts first bowl bid since 2002

Coming off back-to-back two-win seasons, Tulane is poised to play in its first postseason game in over a decade.

The Green Wave announced Tuesday that they have accepted an invitation to play in the 2013 R+L Carriers New Orleans Bowl. Tulane will face Louisiana-Lafayette in the Dec. 21 game scheduled to kickoff at 9 p.m. ET in the Superdome.

“We are excited about the opportunity to participate in the New Orleans Bowl and to play one more game in the Superdome,” head coach Curtis Johnson said in a statement. “This game is a great reward for the hard work and dedication our coaches and players have demonstrated throughout the 2013 season. We look forward to playing an in-state opponent and cannot wait to begin our bowl preparations.”

At 7-5, Tulane finished a regular season above .500 for the first time since 2002 and just the second time since 1998. The former was the year they last played in a bowl game, a 36-28 win over Hawaii in the Hawaii Bowl.

The Green Wave has played in 10 bowl games all-time in the 111-year history of the football program.
