Everett Golson readmitted by Notre Dame, 2014 return on schedule

Everett Golson was readmitted by Notre Dame Friday, which means he will be available to practice with the football team and begin his path to returning to the Fighting Irish as soon a possible. Golson reapplied for admission to Notre Dame in mid-November after being academically suspended last spring.

Notre Dame head coach Brian Kelly said last week Golson would not be practicing with the football team just yet and that he would not be returning to a normal practice schedule until after Notre Dame’s bowl game. Notre Dame faces Rutgers in the Pinstripe Bowl later this month. Once the bowl game is in the books, Golson will begin to work to regain the starting quarterback job as the Irish begin to transition in to the spring.

Golson was Notre Dame’s starting quarterback for the 2012 season that led the Irish to an undefeated regular season and spot in the BCS Championship Game. Golson passed for 2,405 yards and 12 touchdowns and he rushed for six more.

With Golson likely to be under center for the Irish next season, the offense could get a bit of a boost. Although Tommy Rees was not terrible as the team’s starting quarterback this season, he lacked the ability to keep some plays alive the way Golson may be able to. Golson will also have plenty of time to get back in to game shape after missing a year on the field.
