Report: Mack Brown to resign

After a bit of an emotional Friday night, it appears Mack Brown‘s career is actually coming to an end as Texas head coach. A day after all was thought to have calmed down in Austin, The Longhorn Network is reporting that Brown will resign as head coach after coaching Texas in the bowl game.

According to the Longhorn Network‘s report via Twitter, Brown has informed his players and Texas recruits he will be stepping down as head coach, but will coach Texas in the upcoming Alamo Bowl against Oregon. Brown has a record of 158-47 at Texas, highlighted by the school’s only BCS national championship and two Big 12 titles.

There was much speculation about the future of Brown all week-long, and considering the source reporting the news is the official media outlet representing Texas athletics, this seems to be a legitimate report. The other part of the equation that was supposedly in play was Texas hiring Alabama head coach Nick Saban. That is no longer an option after Saban agreed to a contract extension Friday night, as Brown and other leaders at Texas were making speeches at the Texas football banquet.

Even with Saban out of the picture, supposedly, the Texas coaching search should be a wild one to watch unfold.
