Top recruit visited by rival coaching staffs at family party

Prep All-American linebacker Rashaan Evans had a party on Saturday that his family will never forget.

The event, celebrating his grandfather’s 80th birthday, featured visits by both the Alabama and Auburn coaching staffs, as both schools took advantage of the final day of allowable contact between coaches and recruits to make one last pitch for the 5-star talent.

“It was Bama and Auburn in the same room. Really a once in a lifetime event,” said the elder Evans.

Auburn coach Gus Malzahn was in the house and accompanied by the entire Tigers defensive staff, while Alabama defensive coordinator Kirby Smart was joined by his fellow assistants Lance Thompson, Burton Burns and Bo Davis.

“Both staffs were very cordial to each other. They ended up hanging out together and both trying to talk to Rashaan whenever they could,” said Evans’ grandfather.

Evans will announce his college decision on Wednesday and is expected to choose between Auburn and Alabama.
