Florida State loses four-star DT to South Carolina

Not everything went defending national champ Florida State’s way on signing day as its long-committed defensive tackle recruit Dexter Wideman flipped to South Carolina on Wednesday.

Wideman, who hails from Saluda, S.C., made his decision at a press conference at his high school in the afternoon. He is rated the No. 15 defensive tackles prospect in the nation and the 237th overall player by Rivals.com.

“I decided I want to stay close to home,” he said. “I have a good relationship with all the coaches.”

The 6-foot-3, 276-pounder was offered scholarships by Alabama, Clemson, Florida, LSU, Michigan, and Ole Miss as well as the Seminoles and Gamecocks.

South Carolina is certainly on a run with its defensive line of late. Wideman joins six other line recruits in this recruiting class, ranked 16th nationally by Rivals.
