The American Athletic Conference announced Wednesday afternoon that a pair of Cincinnati football players, quarterback Munchie Legaux and wide receiver Shaq Washington, have received what the conference labeled as “eligibility extension waivers.” Essentially, the players received a year of eligibility back that was lost due to injury.
Legaux will now have one season of eligibility remaining while Washington will have two.
Legaux suffered a gruesome knee injury in early September last year, with the torn ligaments ultimately resulting in the quarterback missing the remainder of the 2013 season. During his time with the Bearcats, Legaux has started 14 career games, including the first two in 2013 prior to his injury.
A knee injury sustained during his freshman season in 2011 caused Washington to miss most of that year and resulted in today’s waiver. In 2013, Washington led the Bearcats in receptions with 78 -- the fifth-best single-season total in school history -- and was second in receiving yards with 783.
