Wazzu flag makes its way to Sochi

More and more, it seems like the famed Washington State GameDay flag and its offspring are branching out from the shadow of the popular ESPN college football pregame show and making appearances at various sporting events across the country -- and the globe.

Case in point? The Sochi Olympics.

During the broadcast of NBC’s TODAY morning show from the Russian city Thursday, all was well on the Olympic front when, between hosts Matt Lauer and Savannah Guthrie, a decidedly American icon appeared on the television screen:

Wazzu Flag Sochi

Bravo to whomever is responsible for taking the GameDay tradition out of the country and into yet another new market.

A tradition that began in Oct. of 2003 -- for a Kansas State-Texas game no less -- has now reached a streak of nearly 150 straight Wazzu flag appearances on ESPN’s college football pregame show. For a good read on the Wazzu flag and how it keeps popping up on a TV near you, click HERE.
