TCU receiver depth takes hit with dismissal, but Frogs maturing at position

A day after reports said TCU wide receiver LaDarius Brown was arrested on a charge of marijuana possession, the Horned Frogs decided to cut ties. According to a report by the Star-Telegram, the school confirmed the decision through a release.

“Due to a violation of team rules, LaDarius Brown has been removed from our football program,” TCU athletics said in a release. “This is very unfortunate. We provide our student-athletes with all the guidelines and principles to be successful on and off the field. At some point, they have to govern themselves. It’s a sad day for everyone.”

Brown was TCU’s third-leading receiver in 2013 with 393 receiving yards and five touchdowns. In 2012 Brown accounted for 385 yards and five touchdowns. Losing Brown for 2014 is a problem for the Horned Frogs, but TCU will feature a maturing receiving unit in 2014. Josh Doctson (sophomore) and Ty Slanina (freshman) owned starting jobs in TCU’s final game of the regular season in 2013, and Brandon Carter will be back for his senior season. Carter struggled at times in 2013 but will look forward to a bounce back season with more consistent play down field in 2014.
