A week and a half after reportedly offering a former coach the opportunity to return to Baton Rouge, LSU has officially landed its man.
The Tigers confirmed Thursday that Bradley Dale Peveto has been hired as Les Miles’ new special teams coordinator. Peveto, who was an assistant with the Tigers from 2005-08 and part of Miles’ first coaching staff with the program, will also carry the generic title of “defensive assistant.”
Peveto will replace Thomas McGaughey, who left earlier this month to take the same job with the New York Jets.
“It’s great to have Bradley Dale back at LSU,” a statement from Miles began. “He has great experience in both special teams and on defense. He was part of our 2007 national championship team so he understands and knows what it takes to win at the highest level.
“Bradley Dale is also an outstanding recruiter. His ties to Texas along with the success he’s had recruiting Georgia will be a benefit to our program.”
Peveto spent the 2013 season at Kentucky, serving as special teams coordinator as well as safeties coach. Prior to that, Peveto was the head coach at Northwestern State for four years.
In addition to Peveto, former Miami of Ohio and Pittsburgh head coach Mike Haywood and former Texas and current Louisiana Tech defensive coordinator Manny Diaz were reportedly candidates for the job.
