LaTech the landing spot for ex-Iowa QB Sokol

When it was first reported late last month that Cody Sokol would be transferring from Iowa, it was thought that either Ball State or Louisiana Tech could be a potential destination.

As it turns, the thought when it came to the latter was absolutely correct.

While Tech has yet to announce his addition, Sokol (pictured, No. 19) confirmed to BleedTechBlue.com that he has decided to transfer to the Bulldogs. As the quarterback will graduate from Iowa in May, he will be eligible to play for Tech immediately in 2014.

For Sokol, the opportunity to compete for a starting job on a roster low on experience was the deciding factor.

“That’s all I could ask for, is an opportunity to go down there and be the starter,” Sokol told the Rivals.com website. “That was my biggest thing I was looking at was playing time. I see a big hole in their offense at that (quarterback) position and am willing to fill it for a year. They said they have some good quarterbacks on their roster, the biggest thing is they haven’t matured yet. I feel like I bring a veteran role to Louisiana Tech.”

In addition to Tech and Ball State, Sokol stated that he had received interest from Hawaii, New Mexico State, North Texas, South Alabama and Wake Forest.

Sokol spent the first two seasons of his collegiate career at Scottsdale (Ariz.) Community College before joining the Hawkeyes as a three-star JUCO recruit in 2012. After redshirting that first season, Sokol competed with Jake Rudock and C.J. Beathard for the starting job in 2013, which was ultimately won by the former.
