Report: starting Penn State lineman sustains ‘serious knee injury’

Amidst the excitement of James Franklin‘s first spring in Happy Valley, a (potential) pall has been cast over the Penn State football program.

Citing a pair of team sources, 247Sports.com is reporting that offensive lineman Miles Dieffenbach has sustained what’s being described as a “serious knee injury.” The guard reportedly suffered the injury during a practice session last Wednesday.

The school has yet to address Dieffenbach’s status for the remainder of the spring and beyond, although that’s expected at some point this week.

Dieffenbach started all 12 games last season at left guard as a redshirt junior after starting 11 in 2012. He had been working at right guard prior to the reported injury.

Following the 2013 season, Dieffenbach was named an Academic All-Big Ten selection.
