A highly-touted member of Butch Jones’ first class at Tennessee has decided to ply his football wares elsewhere.
First reported by Wes Rucker of GoVols247, Jones subsequently confirmed to the Knoxville News-Sentinel that Jason Carr will transfer out of the Vols football program. Carr had been moved from defensive to offensive tackle this spring, although it’s unclear if that played a role in his decision.
It’s also unclear to where the Memphis, Tenn., product will transfer. Coming out of high school, Carr had offers from, among others, Alabama, Kentucky, LSU, Mississippi State, Ole Miss and Nebraska. The Tide in particular put on a late full-court press before Carr opted to honor his commitment to the Vols despite a change in coaching staffs.
As a four-star member of the Vols’ 2013 recruiting class, Carr was rated as the No. 13 strongside defensive end in the country and the No. 6 player at any position in the state of Tennessee. Carr, along with three others, was the second-highest-rated member of that class for the Vols.
Carr played in just three games along the defensive line as a true freshman in 2013.
