Felony charge against Nebraska’s Josh Banderas dismissed

Nearly a week after being arrest on a very serious charge, a member of the Nebraska football team is close to, once again, having a clean legal state.

According to the Omaha World-Herald, a felony theft charge against linebacker Josh Banderas has been dismissed. Banderas, who had no prior criminal record, was accepted into a pretrial diversion program, meaning he will have a clean record if he successfully completes the program.

The paper made sure to note that entry into the program is not an admission of guilt. Banderas’ attorney did the same.

“He hasn’t been convicted of anything,” said Banderas’ lawyer, Terry Daugherty.

Banderas and other man were arrested and charged in connection to the on-campus theft of seven bicycles. Banderas told police that he and the other man, a Cornhusker track athlete, intended to sell the bikes on the Internet.

NU officials have yet to detail what if any punishment the player may be facing.

Banderas was a four-star member of the Cornhuskers’ 2013 recruiting class, rated as the No. 1 player at any position in the state of Nebraska. As a true freshman, he was credited with 28 tackles as he played in all 13 games. Four of those games, Banderas started.
