A much-improved second season as head coach has garnered Tony Levine a tweaked contract that will add both years and money to his old deal.
According to both FOX 26 and the Houston Chronicle, the Houston head coach has reached an agreement and signed a two-year contract extension. Levine, whose original five-year deal was set to expire following the 2016 season, is now signed through the 2018 season.
Additionally, Levine’s new deal contains a $125,000 raise, bumping his pay to $925,000 for the 2014 season. Levine remains one of four coaches in the AAC -- Memphis’s Justin Fuente, Rutgers’ Kyle Flood and Temple’s Matt Rhule being the others -- who have yet to hit the seven-figure mark in salary.
Levine, who took over the Cougars after Kevin Sumlin left for the Texas A&M job, has gone 14-12 in a shade over two seasons (he coached UH in its 2011 bowl game). Included in that total is an 8-5 mark in 2013 that included an appearance in the BBVA Compass Bowl.
