On Wednesday we learned New Mexico State is right back on the lookout for a new offensive line coach following the quick loss of Chris Symington. Symington was introduced as the new offensive line coach on May 9, but resigned this week. Now we know a little bit more on why Symington is out as o-line coach.
According to a report by Las Cruces Sun-News, Symington is battling addiction that led to a pair of criminal citations linked to huffing. Per the Las Cruces Sun-News report;Las Cruces police cited Chris Symington twice in a four-day span for huffing compressed air, the second incident unfolding Tuesday morning inside the bathroom of a Las Cruces drug store, according to a police report obtained by the Sun-News.
Symington and his wife told police Tuesday he’s suffering from an addiction and that they were returning to Pueblo, Colorado, to place Symington into rehab, the police report states.
The details from a police report on Tuesday state Symington locked himself in a bathroom at a CVS and was found huffing compressed air. When questioned by police, Symington admitted to huffing. On Sunday Symington was found in his car huffing by a police officer.
As reported yesterday, New Mexico State announced Symington resigned from his position due to “ongoing health issues.” New Mexico State has already begun to search for a new offensive line coach. Symington’s predecessor, Steve Marshall, left to accept a position on the coaching staff with the NFL’s Green Bay Packers earlier in the month.
