Report: Transfer Oregon QB to land at San Diego State

The depth behind Oregon starting quarterback Marcus Mariota has taken a hit this offseason, which we have previously touched on. Damion Hobbs and Jake Rodrigues previously were reported to be transferring out of the program, and now it is reported Rodrigues will be moving to San Diego State.

According to a report by Aztec Sports Report, Rodrigues made an official visit to the Mountain West Conference program last Thursday and made his decision on Friday while having dinner with the coaching staff. The official paperwork has reportedly been completed, meaning Rodrigues will be moving to San Diego State.

Rodrigues drew interest from Miami, Michigan, Texas and Utah State, according to Aztec Sports Report. In the end, Rodrigues picked San Diego State over Texas. A visit to Austin next week has apparently been canned as a result.

“I’m just looking for a place with a senior quarterback graduating next year and a place where the coaches believe in me,” Rodrigues said to Aztec Sports Report. “The player-coach relationship is the most important thing. They’re like your family away from home and that’s very important.”

Rodrigues must sit out the 2014 season due to NCAA transfer rules. He will be eligible to play in 2015 and have two years of eligibility remaining.
