Auburn reinstates LB Anthony Swain

A couple of months after becoming entrenched in it, it looks as if Anthony Swain has made his way out of Gus Malzahn‘s doghouse.

The Auburn head coach confirmed Wednesday that the linebacker has been reinstated to the team. Swain did not practice at all with the team during spring practice earlier this offseason for unspecified, non-injury issues.

The likely reason for the suspension was academics, although that’s not been confirmed by anyone associated with the program.

Malzahn added that Swain is expected to resume working out with his teammates this Monday.

Swain was a three-star member of AU’s 2011 recruiting class, rated as the No. 26 safety in the country that year. He played in every game during the Tigers’ run to the BCS title game last season after playing in 10 the previous season. He’s expected to play a significant role in the Tigers’ defense again this season.

Prior to the spring banishment, Swain’s claim to fame was (allegedly) faking an injury to slow down Arkansas’ offense in an early November game last year.
