A little over a year after ditching Syracuse in favor of Tennessee, Malik Brown could, as it turns out, find himself in a different Orange in the very near future.
In a text message to the Syracuse Post-Standard, the defensive lineman confirmed that the Orange will be under consideration as he looks for a place to continue his collegiate playing career. It was reported last week that Brown would be leaving the Vols after just one year with the football program.
“Yeah,” Brown wrote in a text message to the Post-Standard when asked about the possibility of landing at the ‘Cuse. “I’m looking at every option available.”
The West Palm Beach, Fla., product also held offers from, among others, Cincinnati, Illinois, Minnesota, Mississippi State, North Carolina State, Purdue and West Virginia coming out of high school. It’s unclear if any of those schools are or will be in play this recruiting go-around.
Brown, a three-star end, had verbally committed to Syracuse late in 2012 before signing with Tennessee a couple of months later. The impetus for the flip was Doug Marrone leaving the Orange in January of 2013 to become the head coach of the Buffalo Bills.
After redshirting as a true freshman in 2013, Brown would be compelled to sit out the 2014 season as well to satisfy NCAA transfer rules.
