South Carolina self-reported a total of 22 secondary violations ot the NCAA over the last year, seven of which stemmed from the football program. The football program was the only athletic program at South Carolina to be involved in multiple secondary offenses according to information obtained by the Associated Press through an open-records request. It would seem there is little reason for Steve Spurrier to be concerned about the overall impact of the violations moving forward.
The violations range from impermissible text messages sent by assistant coaches to putting trophies and uniforms on display on a table to cookies having too much icing on them. The NCAA, ladies and gentlemen.
Some of the other violations reported by the Gamecocks include a recruit attending a spring practice and taking a picture with a former South Carolina player currently in the NFL, although the names of both involved in this specific violation have not been disclosed. Another recruiting violation was reported to have been committed when a recruit took a picture while wearing a non-personalized South Carolina football uniform and shared the photo on multiple social networks.
Do not expect these violations to add up to much of anything but a slight slap on the wrist for South Carolina, at the most. Secondary offenses rarely result in much discipline from the NCAA other than having it go on the record.
