Just as the “Days Without An Arrest” ticker reached the halfway point to double digits, it’s been reset -- but not by a player as is normally the case.
Instead, the Tampa Bay Times reports, USF graduate assistant coach Michael Lanaris was arrested early Thursday morning following an incident at a Northwest Tampa shopping plaza. Specifically, Lanaris was charged with one count of shoplifting.
No details, including what was allegedly lifted, were given, although Lanaris remained in jail in lieu of a $250 bond as of late Thursday morning. The Bulls opened summer camp this morning, meaning Lanaris wasn’t a part of what would’ve been his first practice as a grad assistant.
After finishing up his playing career as a USF linebacker a couple of years ago, Lanaris was entering his first season as a coach.
Lanaris is the second USF assistant to be arrested and charged this offseason. Back in late May, defensive line coach Eric Mathies was charged with driving under the influence. Mathies, after a brief suspension, remains a part of head coach Willie Taggart‘s coaching staff.
