Cyclones lose center to season-ending injury

Iowa State’s depth along the offensive line has taken a hit less than a week into summer camp.

Following practice Friday, head coach Paul Rhoads confirmed that Ben Loth has suffered an injury to his left knee that will cost the center the entire 2014 season. As this is Loth’s final season of eligibility, it also serves as a career-ending injury, at least at the collegiate level.

Loth suffered the injury Monday, during the first practice of camp, just as he was making a push for more playing time.

“Guy that finally just started to get a taste of it due to injury,” Rhoads said, “and has worked so hard and he is in position to graduate and finish his career out in fantastic fashion and first day he goes down and it’s all over. It’s disheartening for the young man.”

Loth started two of the nine games in which he played last season.
