A promising member of Indiana’s defensive line won’t be available to the Hoosiers for the foreseeable future.
In a statement, head coach Kevin Wilson confirmed that David Kenney has left the football team. There are reportedly personal matters to which the defensive end needs to attend before returning to the team.
“At this time, David needs a break from Indiana University,” said Wilson in a statement. “We will continue to support David and wish him nothing but the best. There is no timetable for his return and we will not comment any further.”
If the loss is extended, it’d be a potentially significant one.
A four-star member of IU’s 2013 recruiting class, Kenney was rated as the No. 11 weakside defensive end in the country and the No. 6 player at any position in the state of Indiana. He was also, along with three others, the highest-rated signee in IU’s class that year.
As a true freshman, he played in seven games in 2013. Kenney had been expected to be a bigger contributor in IU’s line rotation in 2014.
