USC athletic director Pat Haden has been noticeably absent from athletic events in recent days.
According to the Los Angeles Times, Haden has been in the hospital.
“Haden had been hospitalized twice in the last two days because he was not feeling well,” a source told the Los Angeles Times’ Gary Klein.
The university hasn’t commented on Haden’s status.
Haden missed the annual “Salute to Troy” event Saturday on campus. His absence stirred questions. The severity of his situation is currently unknown.
The 61-year old athletic director took over at USC in August of 2010. He is also a member of the 13-member College Football Playoff selection committee.
If Haden needs to miss any time, it may not have any effect on the selection committee. The group to determine college football’s future won’t meet again until the third week of October. At that point, the committee will meet in Dallas for seven straight weeks.
UPDATE (5:25 p.m.): USC released a quick (and encouraging) statement from the school’s athletic director, Pat Haden, who remains in the hospital:
