Clemson freshman wide receiver Kyrin Priester has been dismissed from the program after one game with the Tigers. The dismissal isn’t due to an off-the-field incident or grades. The freshman simply didn’t approach college football with the right frame of mind.
“Kyrin Priester has been dismissed from the team for an attitude that is not acceptable to our standards,” Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney said after Wednesday’s practice.
Priester contributed on special teams during Clemson season-opening loss to the Georgia Bulldogs, but he wasn’t credited with making any plays.
The wide receiver was considered a three-star prospect out of Fork Union Military Academy. Priester gave North Carolina State a verbal commitment when he was originally recruited out of high school. Priester then flipped to Clemson before it became obvious a post-graduate school was needed for the wide receiver to qualify academically. Priester did so while maintaining his commitment to the Tigers.
Prior to signing with Clemson the first time, Priester also held scholarship offers from the Ohio State Buckeyes, Georgia Bulldogs, Purdue Boilermakers, South Carolina Gamecocks, TCU Horned Frogs and Vanderbilt Commodores.
Now that Priester will have to sit out this season, he should reconsider his options. It will come with the caveat of whether or not the NCAA will even allow him to play during the 2015 season due to transfer rules, since he technically played during the current campaign. Priester could also consider transferring to an FCS-caliber program, and he wouldn’t have to the deal with the NCAA’s red tape next season.
Whatever Priester plans to do, he’ll have to approach it with a new attitude.
