Florida loses TE McGee for the season to broken tibia and fibula

Florida looked to have a great addition to the offense with tight end Jake McGee transferring from Virginia, but one game in to the 2014 season that plan has bene put to rest. Florida head coach Will Muschamp confirmed following Florida’s 65-0 blasting of Eastern Michigan that McGee is out for the remainder of the college football season with a broken tibia and fibula. McGee has already undergone successful surgery and will begin his rehab process as quickly as possible.

""So disappointed for him, a guy that came in here and, very difficult to come into a situation for one year,” Muschamp said when providing the injury update to the media, according to Gator Bait. “He has done it as well as you can imagine ... This guy is a total team guy. Tough guy.”

The tight end was carted off the field in the second quarter on Saturday. McGee had an Eastern Michigan player rolled on McGee’s leg after being blocked and pushed to the ground. McGee was Virginia’s leading receiver in 2013 but transferred to Florida in the offseason. He was expected to help give Florida’s offense a needed boost in terms of steady hands and reliability.

Clay Burton had been listed ahead of McGee on the depth chart and will continue to carry on tat role for the Gators, but depth at the position is now a more significant concern for Florida moving forward.
