Michigan State player predicts punt return for TD on his birthday

When you were a kid and had to blow out candles on your birthday cake you were probably told to make a wish and not tell anybody what it is. Sharing your birthday wish would prevent it from ever coming true, so I was told. If that is the case, then Michigan State wide receiver Macgarrett Kings Jr. may have just prevented his birthday wish from coming true. The Spartans receiver and punt returner is calling for a punt return touchdown on his 21st birthday Saturday.

“I’m calling a punt return for Saturday,” Kings said, according to MLive.com. “I’ve got to get in the end zone. I’ve got to score a couple of touchdowns, for my mom and my dad.”

Kings was commenting on how he is overdue to score a touchdown for Michigan State when he made the bold birthday prediction. His last touchdown came almost a year ago in an early October game against Iowa. You have to love the confidence of this guy too.

“I’m not trying to sound cocky, but I know I’m a talented kid,” Kings said, “so I try to work on everything and not take anything for granted. I know I can back it up, I just need a couple blocks on the punt return and I’m in there and then a good throw from [quarterback Connor Cook], and I’ll take it in there.”

Michigan State hosts Wyoming in East Lansing this weekend in the final non-conference tune-up before the Spartans embark on the defense of their Big Ten championship reign.
