The Texas Board of Regents decided to publicly announce a dreaded vote of confidence in head coach Charlie Strong the night before the Longhorns face the No. 7 Baylor Bears.
It’s a surprising move considering Strong is in the first year of a five-year contract worth approximately $5 million per season.
But Strong hasn’t endeared himself to many supporters of Texas football, which likely prompted the action. Here’s the regents’ motion in “full support” of Strong: pic.twitter.com/C5rm0ZRAoS

Strong quickly made his mark in the program by suspending or dismissing numerous players, including multiple starters. It’s one of the reasons the regents decided to support Strong publicly.

It’s not going to get any easier for Strong this season, though, and the coach might need all the support he can get.
Texas faces five more ranked teams between Saturday and the end of the season. After Baylor, Strong will prepare for his biggest test of the season, the Red River Rivalry. If Texas loses both contests by embarrassing margins, the support Strong recently received may quickly dissipate.
