Chris Davis’ ‘Kick Six’ helmet will be auctioned

How much would you pay to own a priceless piece of college football history?

You’ll have an opportunity to find out exactly how much when Chris Davis’ helmet hits the auction block, according to ESPN.com’s Darren Rovell. Davis’ famous 109-yard return after a missed field goal -- more affectionately known as the “Kick Six” -- was the play of the season last year and will go down as one of the greatest moments in a rich Iron Bowl history between rivals Auburn and Alabama.

Auburn claimed a 34-28 victory, which led the Tigers to the SEC Champion Game and eventually the National Championship Game, due to Davis’ late-game heroics.

Goldin Auctions will place the game-used helmet, which is also signed by Davis, in an auction that starts Oct. 6 and bidding concludes Nov. 1. The firm’s president, Ken Goldin, believes the rare piece could retrieve at least $25,000. The bidding will begin at $5,000.

“I know there are several Auburn graduates who are big memorabilia collectors who will be bidding on this,” Goldin told Rovell.

Or, maybe, a rabid Alabama fan with deep pockets could purchase the item just for the joy of destroying it.

In case anyone forgot about the aforementioned play, watch it all over again:
