BYU QB Taysom Hill’s injury worse than expected

BYU lost starting quarterback, and potential dark horse Heisman Trophy candidate, Taysom Hill to a broken leg Friday night against Utah State. It appears to have been even worst than initially thought.

Today, BYU head coach Bronco Mendenhall shared some of the updates on Hill’s recovery. Mendenhall told reporters doctors determined the extent of the damage was worse than initially expected after being treated Friday night. After going in for surgery on Saturday morning, doctors determined every major ligament in Hill’s leg was shredded, according to Mendenhall. The doctors also inserted a plate and eight screws to help with the rehab process. A broken leg is one thing, but torn ligaments is something else entirely.

Hill shared his own update on Twitter on Sunday, saying his surgical procedure went well. He seems optimistic, at least.

Surgery was a success! Thanks to my doctor and his staff, I’m on my way to a full recovery! Grateful to my sweet wife, family & friends!
