The loss to Ole Miss Saturday put at least a slight dent Alabama’s title hopes. Also dented? Significant members of the Crimson Tide’s starting lineup on both sides of the ball.
At his press conference Monday, Nick Saban confirmed that, as expected, running back Kenyan Drake will likely miss the remainder of the 2014 season after horrifically breaking his leg this past weekend. Just as worrisome, a pair of starters will miss significant time as well.
Starting center Ryan Kelly will be sidelined for “a couple of weeks” due to a sprained knee sustained in the loss to the Rebels. Additionally, starting linebacker Denzel Devall will miss 3-4 weeks because of a high-ankle sprain.
Devall has already undergone surgery for his ankle issue. Both players are definitely out for the Arkansas game this weekend, while there is a possibility Kelly could return the following week against Texas A&M.
As could be expected, UA’s head coach was matter-of-fact when discussing the health issues of his players.
“All of these guys have been really good players for us and they made a great contribution to our team in many different ways,” Saban said. “As always, when you lose players, it creates opportunities for other players.”
