For a LB, UW’s Shaq Thompson is a heckuva RB

Check that; he’s a heckuva running back, period.

Because of injuries and his God-given athletic ability, Shaq Thompson has been asked to shoulder the vast majority of Washington’s running game load in today’s game against Colorado. And to say that the linebacker has done just that would be an understatement.

In the first half against the Buffs, Thompson has rushed for 151 yards on just 10 carries as the Huskies trailed 20-17 heading into the locker room after two quarters. The other four Huskies who have carried the ball combined for 24 yards on 13 carries.

He has a long gain of 56 yards, and scored on a 24-yard run for good measure.

And then there’s this:

Not only that, he’s a threat out of the backfield as his one reception went for 41 yards. Add it all up, and Thompson totaled 192 yards on a measly 11 first-half touches.

CU’s head coach summed up the first half fairly well during his television interview on the way to the locker room.

If we can tackle Shaq, we’ll win the game,” Mike MacIntyre succinctly stated.
