Rashard Higgins, FBS’ receiving yards leader, injured in CSU win

It was not a good day injury-wise for top FBS players.

Washington State’s Connor Halliday, the nation’s leading passer by a wide margin, suffered a season-ending broken leg. One of Ole Miss’ most potent playmakers, Laquon Treadwell, will miss the remainder of the season after suffering a horrendous lower-leg injury.

Now comes word that, while not as serious (at least for now), Colorado State’s Rashard Higgins suffered a shoulder injury as the Rams won its seventh game in a row Saturday. Higgins suffered the injury in the fourth quarter of the 35-31 win over San Jose State.

Jim McElwain either didn’t know or wouldn’t detail the exact nature and extent of the injury.

“Rashard landed on his shoulder, and we’ll see how that is next week,” the CSU head coach said.

Through Week 10, Higgins leads the nation in receiving yards (1,280), receiving yards per game (142.2) and receiving touchdowns (13). His 7.4 receptions per game is tied for ninth.

Higgins has totaled at least 140 yards receiving in seven of the first nine games this season, with the last time coming under that mark being Sept. 27 (98 yards vs. Boston College).

This isn’t the only injury concern as the man responsible for delivering the football, quarterback Garrett Grayson, sustained what appears to be a groin injury. Grayson, though, was able to gut it out and continue playing.

“He did the greatest Willis Reed impression I’ve ever seen, limping out there for every possession,” McElwain said. “We’ll see what it is; sounds like a groin or something.”

And, for those who, like Grayson, have no clue who Reed is or what McElwain was talking about, click HERE.
