Nebraska RB Abdullah has mildly sprained MCL

Nebraska running back Ameer Abdullah gave the Huskers fans a good scare after going down with an injury on Saturday, but he could be back for an important game to come. Nebraska head coach Bo Pelini said Abdullah has a sprained MCL, and the injury is considered to be mild. With a little luck, Abdullah could be back for Nebraska’s big game against Wisconsin next week.

“We’re very optimistic,” Pelini said about getting Abdullah, a Heisman Trophy candidate, back in time to face the Badgers to Omaha World-Herald. “I’m optimistic. I can’t say for sure.”

Abdullah was injured in the first quarter against Purdue. The Huskers are off this week, so Abdullah will have an extra week to focus on his injury without missing any playing time. Obviously, Pelini will not say now whether or not his running back will be on the field against the Badgers, but he will certainly be hopeful this is the case. Nebraska and Wisconsin are the top two teams in the Big Ten West Division, and the November 15 game could be the one that decides which team heads to Indianapolis to play for the Big Ten championship.

Abdullah is among the nation’s leaders in rushing with 1,250 rushing yards and 17 touchdowns.
