A&M’s starting RT likely out for rest of regular season

What was thought to be a cake break from the rigors of SEC play nearly turned into a loss for Texas A&M. It also turned into a hit for its offensive line for good measure.

In A&M’s closer-than-expected win over Louisiana-Monroe Saturday, starting right tackle Germain Ifedi sustained a grade-two MCL sprain. Head coach Kevin Sumlin said Tuesday he doesn’t expect the lineman to return for the regular season.

“On bigger guys, [an MCL sprain is] a problem,” the coach said. “I wouldn’t look to see him for the remainder of the regular season. We’ll probably get him back for the bowl game.”

At 6-3, the Aggies are already bowl-eligible. If Ifedi is unable to return for the regular season, he’d miss games against Auburn, Missouri and, after a bye, LSU on Thanksgiving.

Ifedi has started all nine games in 2014, and 20 in his Aggie career. He moved from right guard to right tackle in the offseason.

Sophomore Ryan Lindblade is listed as Ifidi’s backup on the most recent two-deep depth chart.
