Marcus Mariota is Bovada’s overwhelming Heisman favorite

Barring something unexpected happening over the next four weekends, most observers see Marcus Mariota hoisting the 2014 version of the Heisman Trophy in mid-December. Not so surprisingly, at least one major oddsmaker sees the same thing.

Just as he has been the previous two releases, the Oregon quarterback is Bovada.lv‘s Heisman favorite. Or, more specifically, Mariota is the overwhelming favorite at 1/5, shorter odds than the 1/2 he was getting a week ago and the 4/5 he was getting the week before that.

Just two players made significant jumps in the latest set of odds, and not surprisingly both are coming off big wins. Quarterback Trevone Boykin, on the strength of TCU’s three-touchdown win over Kansas State, went from 33/1 to 14/1. Following a road win over Michigan State in which he accounted for five touchdowns, Ohio State quarterback J.T. Barrett jumped from 50/1 to 20/1, Behind just Mariota, Mississippi State quarterback Dak Prescott (13/2), Wisconsin running back Melvin Gordon (14/1) and Boykin.

Nick Marshall took the biggest hit odds-wise as he tumbled from 14-1 to 40-1. Auburn suffered its second loss of the season, an upset in Jordan-Hare Stadium at the hands of unranked Texas A&M.

Just one player was taken off Bovada‘s board -- quarterback Everett Golson, no doubt a result of Notre Dame’s humbling road loss to Arizona State. Golson, prior to his turnover-laden performance, was at 10/1 and behind just Mariota and Prescott.
