Michigan players informed of Brady Hoke’s dismissal

It’s all but official: the Brady Hoke era at Michigan has come to an end.

At a team meeting that began at 3 p.m. ET this afternoon, Scout.com‘s Sam Webb is reporting, Wolverine football players were informed that Hoke has been dismissed as UM’s head coach. There’s no word on who made the announcement to the players.

The Detroit News subsequently confirmed that Hoke has been ousted.

Shortly after that meeting began, the university sent out the following press release:

University of Michigan Interim Athletic Director Jim Hackett will meet with the media today (Tuesday, Dec. 2) to discuss the state of the football program under the direction of head coach Brady Hoke. The media opportunity will begin at approximately 4:30 p.m. EST in the Crisler Center Media Room.

Hackett will be the only one who will speak at the press conference, and is widely expected to announce that Hoke has been dismissed. Speculation surrounding Hoke’s future in Ann Arbor have been swirling for well over a year, so this is far from a surprising development.

Hoke will finish his UM career with a 31-20 overall record and an 18-14 mark in Big Ten play. Since an 11-win first season, Hoke’s win totals have dropped from eight (2012) to seven (2013) to five this season. He also posted a 2-6 record against UM’s two main rivals, Michigan State and Ohio State.
