Ohio State players and coaches paid their respects to Kosta Karageorge today, putting their teammate to rest today, but it will not be their final show of respect. Ohio State players will wear a special memorial decal on the back of their helmets with Karageorge’s number 53 on it when the Buckeyes play for the Big Ten championship Saturday night against Wisconsin in Indianapolis.
The Associated Press reported the news of the decal. The report by the AP also mentioned there will be a moment of silence before the championship game between Ohio State and Wisconsin kicks off in Lucas Oil Stadium.
Karageorge went missing last week before Thanksgiving and was tragically found in a dumpster near his residence, the victim of a self-inflicted gun wound. Karageorge reportedly suffered from problems with concussions and was also a member of Ohio State’s wrestling program. He walked on to the football team this season. He had been a member of Ohio State’s scout team and had not played a down for Ohio State, but his energy and enthusiasm was respected by his teammates.
Karageorge was 22 years old.
