College Football Playoff coaches among Eddie Robinson Coach of the Year finalists

If you want to play in the College Football Playoff, you will need to have a good coach. All four coaches leading teams to the first College Football Playoff have been named a finalist for the Eddie Robinson Coach of the Year Award.

Alabama’s Nick Saban, Ohio State’s Urban Meyer, Oregon’s Mark Helfrich and Florida State’s Jimbo Fisher were each named a finalist for the award Monday afternoon. Joining them are Baylor’s Art Briles, Boise State’s Bryan Harsin, TCU’s Gary Patterson and Justin Fuente of Memphis.

Saban has won the award twice before. He won the award in 2008 with Alabama and in 2003 with LSU. Meyer also has an Eddie Robinson award on his profile as well, winning the award in 2004 with Utah. TCU’s Patterson was named the Eddie Robinson Coach of the Year in 2009. Last year’s award went to Auburn head coach Gus Malzahn.

The Eddie Robinson is voted on and presented by the Football Writers Association of America. This year’s award winner will be presented January 10, 2015 in Dallas during the College Football Playoff National Championship Game schedule of events. The award is named after legendary Grambling coach Eddie Robinson.
