Danny Langsdorf among four added to Mike Riley’s Husker staff

For the second and third times today, an NFL assistant during the 2014 season has landed a job at the FBS level.

Nebraska announced in a press release the addition of four assistant coaches to Mike Riley‘s first NU staff, including Danny Langsdorf as offensive coordinator. It’s a reunion for the two as Langsdorf, who spent the 2014 season as the New York Giants quarterbacks coach, spent nine season as coordinator/quarterbacks coach for Riley at Oregon State.

In addition to Langsdorf, the hirings of Reggie Davis (running backs) and coach Hank Hughes (defensive line) were announced. Davis spent the past four seasons with Jim Harbaugh, including the 2014 season as the San Francisco 49ers offensive line coach, while Hughes spent the 2014 season as the co-defensive coordinator and linebackers coach at Cincinnati.

Charlton Warren, meanwhile, is a holdover from Bo Pelini‘s staff and will serve as Riley’s secondary coach. He held the same post in 2014.

“We are thrilled with the staff we have assembled at the University of Nebraska,” Riley said in a statement. “This is a successful group of outstanding teachers, coaches and recruiters, and I know they will represent our school and program very well.”

Four hires had previously been announced, with all four coming from Riley’s former OSU staff: defensive coordinator Mark Banker, linebackers coach Trent Bray, offensive line coach Mike Cavanaugh and special teams coordinator Bruce Read.

The school’s release noted that Riley’s “staff has a combined 216 years of coaching experience, while boasting a combined 56 bowl game appearances and 38 years coaching in the professional ranks.” Riley still has one position to fill.
