The basketball tournament may be all the rage right now, but it is never too early to get a college football fix. But if you want to satisfy your craving for college football this weekend then you better have your passport ready.
Princeton’s football team will be playing a game in Japan on Saturday against the Kwansei Gakun University Fighters, 27-time Japanese Collegiate Champions. It sounds like Kwansei Gakun University is the Alabama of Japan, or something like that. The game is being dubbed the Legacy Bowl to honor the history of the two programs. These two have actually played before too. In a 2001 exhibition, Princeton edged Kwansei Gakun, 27-25.
Of course, the level of competition in Japan is more on par with Division 2 or Division 3 in the United States despite Japan having a decent history of college football in the country. This is more evidence the sport of American football continues to grow internationally and events like this help sell the game.
Unfortunately, this exhibition game will not be available to watch in the United States. There is no Internet feed available for the game, which is a true shame. I know I would be interested to watch.
