It is safe to say Florida State recruits very well. The early moments of today’s spring game in Tallahassee would validate that thought. A pair of early enrollee players came up with a pair of scoring plays to spark the Garnet team to an early lead.
Derwin James picked off a pass from quarterback Sean Maguire, the expected successor to Jameis Winston, on the second pass of the game, and found his way out of traffic to race into the end zone for an early touchdown. Just minutes later George Campbell beat everybody down the right sideline on his way to the end zone to give the Garnet team an early 14-0 lead.
James was a five-star defensive back in Florida State’s Class of 2015. Rivals ranked James as the top defensive back in the nation, and he was the fifth top recruit in the state of Florida. Campbell was also a five-star recruit. He was also a top ten recruit in the state of Florida and Rivals ranked him as the fifth-best running back in the nation.
Expect to hear these names in the next few years. If the first few minutes of the spring game are any indication, you might even hear those names at some point this fall. But let’s not get too carried away just yet.
