Stanford makes addition of ex-Cal DL Brennan Scarlett official

As somewhat expected, Stanford is the beneficiary of an intraconference transfer.

Early last month, it was reported that Brennan Scarlett would be transferring from Cal. Simultaneously, it was reported that the Cardinal would be a potential, or even likely, landing spot.

A little over a month later, that report has come to fruition as the Cardinal announced Tuesday afternoon that Scarlett has joined the football program as a graduate transfer. The school also notes that the defensive lineman is the first-ever graduate transfer in the program’s history, and he will be eligible to play immediately in 2015.

Scarlett’s brother, Cameron Scarlett, is a member of the program’s 2015 recruiting class.

Scarlett was a touted four-star member of Cal’s 2011 recruiting class, but injuries severely curtailed what was once a promising career. He sustained a season-ending injury as a true freshman after just three games, then, after starting nine games in 2012, missed the entire 2013 season because of a broken hand. He returned in 2014 as a starter at end, only to see that season shortened to just the first five games of the season because of a partially torn ACL.

All told, he started 14 of the 17 games in which he played.
