Utah’s Kyle Whittingham stumps for College Football Playoff expansion

Utah was not a victim of the College Football Playoff format last season, but Utes head coach Kyle Whittingham went to bat for those in support of expanding the one-year-old postseason format.

During a conference call with Pac-12 coaches, Whittingham took the opportunity to say he is a fan of the new championship model, but he would expand the number of teams getting an invite to the big party from four to eight.

And here we go again: Utah coach Kyle Whittingham says on Pac-12 teleconference that the playoff needs to be expanded.

The company line coming out fo the College Football Playoff has been there will be no changes, no expansion or discussion about potential amendments to the postseason format until the current contract expires (11 more years to go!), but this has not prevented anyone from keeping silent when it comes to whether or not the field should expand from four to eight. We are just now entering the second year of the new college football championship model, and the push to modify it has been vocal from the start. We have a long way to go before the playoff expands, if the statements from the playoff representatives is any indication.

There is always the idea of a college football NIT though.
