Texas A&M chancellor rips Texas and Longhorn Network

Until Texas and Texas A&M finally get back to playing football against each other, the annual, if not monthly, topic of when they will revive the rivalry will continue to pop up with no progress. According to Texas A&M chancellor John Sharp, A&M has gone to Texas and asked if there is any interest in picking up the series, but that question was met with a “no.”

Which led Sharpe to take some shots at his rivals in Austin.

“I mean, we did go to them. We asked them to play,” Sharp said in an interview with the Texas Tribune (via The Dallas Morning News). “I will say there is less enthusiasm among the Aggie network now than there was back then. We have new friends and we like playing LSU and we like playing these folks. We’re hopeful that sometime in the future there will be a bowl game that we’re able to play in, you know, if [Texas] gets there. But the great thing about playing us is that you can get on real TV if you play us.”

Considering the new information regarding the value of the SEC Network and the network’s relationship with ESPN compared to the viewership of Texas’ Longhorn Network, that cannot be considered anything but an insult directed at Texas.

Since joining the SEC, the Texas A&M brand has never been as big as it may be today. With Johnny Manziel lighting up the college football world and stadium renovations to Kyle Field, Texas A&M is heading in a great direction. It has proven to be more than capable of living outside the shadow of the Longhorns, but it would be nice to see that score settled on the field once more.
