Michigan makes addition of Stanford grad transfer Wayne Lyons official

Earlier today it was reported that Michigan had self-reported four minor NCAA violations since Jim Harbaugh took over the program, including one related to expected graduate transfer Wayne Lyons.

Coincidentally or not, Lyons’ move to Ann Arbor has become officially official the same day.

In a press release, UM announced that Lyons has indeed transferred to the Wolverines and will conclude his playing career at the school. As a grad transfer, Lyons will be eligible to play immediately in 2015. This will be his final season of eligibility.

“We are excited about the addition of Wayne Lyons as a post-graduate student and defensive back on our football team,” said secondary coach Michael Zordich in a statement. “He brings great experience and ability to our secondary and special teams units. In addition, Wayne is a super individual who will achieve great things both on the field and in his future career.”

Zordich, incidentally, was responsible for one of the four violations as he spoke about Lyons before he officially joined the team.

Lyons, whose mother took a job in UM’s football department earlier this year, played in all 41 games the past three seasons for Stanford, starting all 13 games in 2013. He shared the starting job in 2014.

Harbaugh had recruited Lyons to Stanford before he left for the San Francisco 49ers in January of 2011, a month before the player signed with the Cardinal.
